Divisive Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has attracted the scorn of crowds yet again after retiring hurt from his latest match.

The world No.18 tapped out of the quarter-final clash at the Atlanta Open against Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie shortly after losing the first set, only to be booed off the court by outraged attendees.

Kyrgios, 23, had taken a medical timeout earlier in the match for what appeared to be a problem with his hip, Yahoo Seven reports.

He was losing the match 7-5, 3-0 when he ultimately decided to call it quits.

Norrie, however, expressed sympathy for Kyrgios in an interview after the match.

‘I really feel for the guy,’ he said. ‘He’s so talented. Who knows what he could do in tennis if he was healthy.’

Kyrgios showed signs that he was losing interest earlier in the match, including a questionable performance toward the end of the first set and a limp double-fault early in the second.

Earlier this month the Aussie came under fire from tennis fans after he spectacularly crashed out of Wimbledon in a straight sets loss to Japanese player Kei Nishikori.

In that same match he was issued a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct after smashing the ball into the air when conceding set point in the second.
