Australian tennis bad boy Nick Kyrgios has lashed out in yet another on-court tantrum, this time at jeering fans during a drama-filled quarter final showdown at the Mexican Open.

Kyrgios met Swiss top seed Stan Wawrinka in a fiery grudge match that was plagued with drama from the outset on Thursday night.

The latest on-court drama comes after Kyrgios sparked a war of words with world number two Rafael Nadal when the defeated Spaniard said the controversial Australian star needed to show more respect to himself, his opponents and the crowd.

Fans jeered Kyrgios as he arrived on court on Friday before the booing erupted again shortly afterwards when he took a tumble in the opening game of the match.

The Australian player lost his footing and fell onto his racquet hand as he tumbled onto the surface.

Kyrgios called for a medical timeout to be treated for a bloodied cut on his hand, which sparked boos from Mexican crowd.

‘What is wrong with these f***ing people,’ he was heard saying.

‘It’s f***ing insane. There’s blood all over my hand, bro. What do you want me to do?

Kyrgios was later embroiled in a heated exchange with the chair umpire when he was ordered to calm down.

‘Don’t ever say that to me again, that is bulls***,’ Kyrgios responded.

‘I had Rafa yesterday slowing me down before serve, (Wawrinka) is pumping up the crowd. Don’t talk to me like that, I’m pumping up the crowd.’

The Aussie needed several medical timeouts during the tense match before he overcame three match points to win 7-5 6-7 6-4 to book a spot in the semi finals.

Once ranked 13th in the world, Kyrgios will now face either fellow Australian John Millman or US third-seed John Isner as he eyes off a fifth career title.

‘I actually play better when the crowd’s against me…I love it, it gets me going,’ Kyrgios said afterwards.

He and Wawrinka have had a hostile rivalry for several years after Kyrgios told the Swiss star during a game that his girlfriend had slept with fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Earlier in the tournament, Kyrgios displayed some of his best form when he caused an upset against Nadal on Wednesday.

He also landed himself in yet another controversy when he served underarm during the match.

Nadal later told reporters that Kyrgios should be fighting for grand slams under the number one ranking but ‘lacks respect for the crowd, his opponent and towards himself’.

Kyrgios later returned serve.

‘I’m different, Rafa’s different. He can focus on what he needs to do. He doesn’t know the journey I have been on, he doesn’t know anything about me. I am not going to listen at all. That’s the way I play,’ he said.
