Nick Riewoldt is crowned the winner of Celebrity MasterChef after acing an exceptionally difficult ‘Metropolis’ dessert during the show’s finale


Nick Riewoldt was crowned the winner on Monday’s highly anticipated finale of Celebrity MasterChef.

The 39-year-old former Australian rules footballer grew emotional after landing a winning score of 38 out of 40.

‘It’s amazing. I’m overwhelmed. I really am. It’s been one of the best things I’ve done, one of the best experiences I’ve had,’ he said.

Nick explained that after quitting the AFL four years ago, he felt like there had been a ‘missing chapter’ in his life.

‘I’ve been a part of teams for a long time. And this is one of the great teams I’ve felt privileged to be a part of,’ he said of his Celebrity MasterChef co-stars.

In addition to winning the title of this year’s Celebrity MasterChef, Nick won $100,000 for his charity, Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision.

The show’s three finalists – Collette Dinnigan, Nick and Tilly Ramsay – were tasked with recreating chef Martin Benn’s incredible ‘Metropolis’ dessert.

Benn rated the difficulty of the dish as being ’20’ out of 10, and revealed ‘it took about a year of planning’ to create. 

‘So, the shell on the top is a cocoa butter white chocolate shell with charcoal powder,’ he explained.

‘Then we have a coconut Chantilly, which is obviously the white cream, and then the block underneath, that is four layers. 

‘So the top layer is an anise praline crunch. Then we have a chocolate crémeux followed by a fermented cherry gel and then a caramel chocolate mousse.’ 

Benn later rated Nick’s ‘Metropolis’ an impressive 10 out of 10, and told him: ‘I enjoyed your dish as much as my own.’
