‘I am also a mother and a wife, I have two little daughters Sunny and Faith and my darling Keith – who I asked to help me pursue this artistic path,’ the actress said breaking down into tears.

‘And they have to sacrifice so much for it, so this is yours – I want my little girls to have this on their shelf and to look at it and go ‘every time my mum didn’t put me to bed it’s because of this – I got something.’

She continued: ‘But also I want them to know that sometimes when you’re acting you get a chance to bring a bigger message and this is their contribution and your contribution – we’ve shone a light on domestic abuse.

‘People don’t mean it to be offensive, but it is,’ she told Vogue Australia in January.

She said she ‘got a lot of’ comments from others who didn’t understand adoption.

”We feel so bad that you couldn’t have your own children,’ That’s what I got a lot of,’ the Australian beauty explained.

‘I would say, basically: ‘This is my destiny, this is what I wanted, and this is my child.’ And that’s the simplest way to handle that,’ she said.

Following her divorce from Top Gun star Tom, Nicole went on to marry country singer Keith Urban, 49, in 2006.

The couple welcomed two biological children, daughters Sunday Rose in 2008, and Faith Margaret in 2010.

In January this year, Nicole opened up about motherhood in an interview with Foxtel magazine.

‘I do have elements of the helicopter parent that I grapple with,’ the Big Little Lies star began.

‘When my daughters are playing on the monkey bars I try not to hover and say, ‘be careful’. I want them to find their own way and not feel over-parented, but I still have that balance of knowing I am there when they need me.

Nicole also gushed about her marriage to Keith, saying: ‘I would not be able to do anything without Keith. Our union is so nourishing and strong and healing.’
