Former U.S. ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley took to Twitter Wednesday to condemn ‘false rumors’ about Vice President Mike Pence, calling him a ‘dear friend’ who has her support.

Her admonition came just days after President Trump once again vouched for Pence and said he was ‘very happy’ with his vice president.

Wrote Haley: ‘Enough of the false rumors. Vice President Pence has been a dear friend of mine for years. He has been a loyal and trustworthy VP to the President. He has my complete support,’ she said.

Trump touted Pence when asked about him in New Jersey on Sunday as he returned to the White House – but also confirmed that other people had been bringing ‘names up.’

‘I think Mike Pence has been an outstanding VP,’ the president said. ‘I think that he has been incredible in terms of the love that a lot of people, especially if you look at the evangelicals and so many the others, they really have a great respect for the vice president, and so do I. And so do I think most people.’

Trump added later: ‘ A lot of the people, amazingly, they bring different names up and they brought a lot of different names.’

‘That’s, by the way, standard. That’s standard. Everybody thought that President Obama was going to change Biden. They thought second term, he was going to change that. Everybody thought that, but he didn’t do that. But no, I’m very happy with Mike Pence.’

When she left the administration Trump knocked down rumors he was considering substituting Haley for Pence on the ticket.

She had been under consideration in 2012 and in 2016. But Haley signaled she may put more distance from Trump when he condemned his attacks on Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland and his home city of Baltimore.

‘This is so unnecessary,’ she wrote.

Haley has been active on the campaign trail – for others. She stumped in Colorado for Sen. Cory Gardner this week.
