- Congress unveiled Iran plots to target Nikki Haley, Donald Trump and Joe Biden
- Some Republicans think Iran is linked to the assassination attempt on Trump
Nikki Haley opened up about how she was informed how her campaign was being targeted by Iranians.
The former 2024 Republican presidential candidate said the FBI told her Iran was meddling in an effort to harm her bid for the White House.
The latest disclosure comes after Congress divulged last week that Iranian-backed entities plotted to assassination American ‘politicians, military people or bureaucrats,’ including Haley, former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) discovered the latest through a review of unclassified FBI documents that he sought after Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.
Some Republicans think the would-be assassin was connected to a foreign entity like Iran or Pakistan.
Former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley revealed on Sunday how she was told during her 2024 bid for the White House that Iran was trying to meddle to hurt her campaign
Trump’s right ear was grazed by a bullet during Crooks’ attack. One rally goer died and two others were critically injured before agents were able to take out the 20-year-old shooter.
The Iranian plans to take out top American leaders was a retaliation plot against the U.S. for the death of Iranian military officer Qasem Soleimani.
Haley says Iran and other foreign adversaries have been running efforts for years to ‘divide Americans and cause chaos.’
‘This has been going for a long time, and Americans need to wake up,’ she told CBS Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan on Sunday.
‘Don’t just look at Russia. Don’t just look at China. Don’t just look at Iran,’ she warned. ‘The biggest lesson we need to take is when you look at social media, I bet you a larger percentage of those are foreign engagements.’
Haley, a hawk on foreign involvement and national security, was the last candidate in the Republican race trying to take out Trump for the 2024 general election.
She dropped out of the primary race following sweeping losses on Super Tuesday. By winning the primaries in Washington, D.C. and Vermont – both very blue areas where even Republicans are more left-leaning – Haley became the first woman to win a state or territorial GOP primary contest.
Rep. Mike Waltz, who is on the House task force investigating the assassination attempt against Trump, told DailyMail.com that he isn’t convinced Crooks was a lone wolf.
The latest revelations of an Iranian-backed plot on Trump and other U.S. politicians’ lives is bolstering the doubt over claims Crooks did not have foreign ties.
Asif Merchant, a Pakistani native with Iranian ties, provided the latest evidence of the scheme in FBI proffer agreement, which has not been released by Sen. Grassley.
The Iranian plot was reported in days after the assassination attempt on Trump’s life at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13
Iran has vowed revenge ever since the January 2020 attack under President Trump that took out Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps General Qasem Soleimani (pictured)
The Justice Department has charged Merchant for his involvement in the revenge plot.
Just four months before the attempt on Trump’s life this summer, the FBI posted a notice requesting information on an alleged Iranian spy the agency believed to be involved in assassination plots.
Majid Farahani, 42, was accused by the FBI of plotting revenge killings after Soleimani was killed in a Trump administration-led attack on January 3, 2020.
Ever since the attack that took out the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander, Iran has vowed retaliation. The FBI claims Farahani was acting in a plot on Trump’s life on behalf of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence.
Due to worries about a plot against Trump, Secret Service detail around the former president was actually ramped up before the Butler rally – but the heightened security did not prevent the shooter from his attack.
The latest revelations on the plot came from an FBI proffer agreement with Asif Merchant, a Pakistani native with Iranian ties, that was released by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa)
The FBI released a notice in March for an alleged Iranian spy they say is behind the plot to assassinate current and former government officials in retribution for the death of Soleimani
