Nine confirms record number of applicants for Married At First Sight

It didn’t have the highest success rate when it came to matches this season, with only Melissa Walsh and John Robertson still together.

But the lack of relationships continuing after Married At First Sight hasn’t deterred unlucky in love singles, with Channel Nine confirming they have received a record number of applications for next year’s season.

A network spokesperson told The Daily Telegraph they have received 10,000 applications since the casting call began earlier this month.

Looking for love? Nine confirms record number of applicants for the next season of Married At First Sight … despite John and Melissa being the only couple still together from this year’s series

This is 1200 more than the total number of applications Married At First Sight received last year over a three month period, the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile the website hosting casting application forms received a staggering 40,000 hits in the first week of going live.

Would be applicants appear to be undeterred by this season’s low success rate, of which John and Melissa remain the only couple out of 11 original pairings still together.

But there has been plenty of ‘wife swapping’, with six contestants trading in their TV spouses for someone else on the show since filming wrapped.

Carly Bowyer is now in a relationship with Troy Delmege, Tracey Jewel is with Sean Thomsen and Justin Fischer is said to be dating Ashley Irvin.

Despite the show not scoring hugely in the romance department, it did win big when it came to audience size.

This year’s season boasted the show’s highest ratings ever, with more than 1.75 million metro viewers nationally.

Its stars have also reaped the rewards, gaining mammoth Instagram fan bases, with stars such as Sarah Roza and Ryan Gallagher gaining more than 100,000 followers.

On Wednesday, radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson claimed Ryan had bragged about his newfound fame.

She recalled: ‘He goes, “Sucked in! I’ve got more followers than you!”‘

But Kyle Sandilands remarked that MAFS stars may soon find people start unfollowing them once their popularity fades.

‘People will end up turning off them,’ he said.
