It also has an inscription that reads ‘TAG Heuer x Super Mario Limited Edition’ on the back.

The animations take form at Mario’s ‘most famous objects,’ including a Super Mushroom that makes Mario grow at 3 pm; a Pipe that allows him to travel at 6pm; the Super Star at 9 pm; and Mario climbing the Goal Pole when the 100 percent level is reached.

Also included on the watch are Mario ‘M’ logos on the crown, buttons and bezels, as well as a pair of red and black leather and rubber bands.

The Apple Watch, the industry leader with nearly 33 percent of the smartwatch market, starts at $199 for the Series 3 and $399 for the Series 6, Apple’s latest device.

By comparison, Tag Heuer’s existing Google Wear OS-enabled smartwatches start around $1,800.

The Mario-themed smartwatch runs on Google’s Wear OS, although CNet notes it does not have a new chipset or software for the Wear OS revamp, scheduled for later this year.

Both companies note that only 2,000 units were created and the Mario-centric watch will need to be purchased either on Tag Heuer’s website or ‘selected boutique’ on July 15.
