NJ road rage attack leads to tractor trailer flipping over

This is the dramatic moment a tractor trailer flipped over on a New Jersey highway following a road rage attack.

Mahwah police say the 44-year-old driver of an SUV, from Montebello, New York, thought a truck was being driven aggressively and was recklessly changing lanes on Route 17.

The SUV driver then decided to take the law into his own hands, and pulled in front of the truck and hit the breaks to force it to slow down.

Dashcam footage, released by police, shows the truck driver losing control and hitting the median.

It toppled over just as it went under a bridge, and the trailer slid across the highway.

‘Miraculously, no other vehicles struck the tractor which could have resulted in a major accident since it occurred at approximately 9:46 a.m. on a weekday morning,’ Mahwah police Chief James N. Batelli told NJ.com.

Both the SUV driver and truck driver, a 36-year-old man from Depew, New York, were issued tickets for careless driving.

Police say the SUV driver should have called 911.

‘What starts out as a motor vehicle violation can easily escalate in a very dangerous situation with the potential of very serious, if not dangerous outcome,’ Lt. Scott Cherven, Mahwah traffic bureau supervisor, said in a statement.
