When quizzed on whether things have improved for women in the industry, she said: ‘I think I’m very cocooned within a team that really support me and a team that really look after my progress as a female artist. I can’t say that all women have that experience.

‘I think you can do it all yourself, don’t be scared of the technical side of music. It’s a great place to start, everything you do on their is a happy mistake. That’s where the best musical ideas come from. I was in the studio the other day with a producer and a lot more female artists and producers are coming through.’

Billie Eilish, Sam Fender and Wolf Alice are leading the nominations at the awards.

The ceremony will be co-hosted by comedian Daisy May Cooper and Grime star Lady Leshurr and will feature performances from Griff, Rina Sawayama, BERWYN, CHVRCHES and Robert Smith of The Cure.

Bad Guy hitmaker Billie, 20, will contest for Best Solo Act In The World, Best Music Film for Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry and Best Music Video for Happier Than Ever.
