Boris Johnson has reportedly developed a bunker mentality in No 10 and frozen out key aides in favour of his partner Carrie Symonds and his dark arts mastermind Dominic Cummings.
Elections guru Lynton Crosby and long-standing supporter Will Walden are among those who have been cut out of the Prime Minister’s inner circle after rows, causing anger and concern.
Mr Cummings, 47, is believed to be behind Mr Johnson’s decision to adopt a hardline attack on his political opponents that included disastrously proroguing Parliament and branding the Benn Act which blocks a No Deal Brexit, the ‘surrender act’, sparking uproar.
He is also seeking more and more advice from Ms Symonds, 31, a former communications director of the Conservative Party.

Another said: ‘The Cummings experiment has palpably failed, but Boris will not turn the ship.
‘He’s only listening to two voices now, Dominic and Carrie – and Dominic’s approach is proving a car crash. We’re getting really worried’.
Mr Cummings cut a low key figure at the Conservative party conference in Manchester last night, being spotted in a hotel bar with a friends, picking up a bottle of champagne before returning to his room.
Ms Symonds made a high-key entrance to the event on Sunday, arriving arm-in-arm with the Prime Minister.
Mr Johnson’s administration has suffered a series of setback in recent weeks.
They suffered a serious blow last week when the Supreme Court ruled that he had unlawfully prorogued Parliament, allowing Mps to reopen the Commons.
The ‘Remainer alliance’ will hold talks today as they plot to bind his Johnson’s hands even tighter on Brexit.
Labour, the SNP, the Lib Dems and other smaller parties will meet in Westminster as they step up their attack on the embattled PM.
The gathering – as the Tories stage their conference in Manchester – could deliver another blow to Mr Johnson by launching a bid to make him beg for an extension from the EU by Saturday.
This all comes as the PM reels from lurid allegations about his private life.
He has been accused of having a sexual affair with US entrepreneur and ex-model Jennifer Arcuri while he was London mayor, and taxpayer funding she received for her business are now the subjct of several probes.
