The Australian Open is underway and has already seen big players like Andy Murray and Kyle Edmund lose their place in the competition. 

Murray announced his impending retirement before the tournament and following his defeat by Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut, the two-time Wimbledon champion is unsure whether it was his last match or not.

TOMIC: NO ONE LIKES HEWITT ANY MORE

Trouble in Australian tennis, with controversial Bernard Tomic having a go at Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt, insisting the former Wimbledon champion has favourites who get preferential wildcard treatment. 

‘No one likes him any more,’ said Tomic, ruling out a return to the team while Hewitt is in charge. ‘I hope he gets moved and we can go back to having a good captain.’

Serena Williams has created an Instagram page dedicated to her daughter Olympia’s doll, called Qai Qai. 

Williams said: ‘I wanted her to have a black doll. Growing up, I didn’t have that many opportunities to have black dolls. And I was just thinking, I want her first doll to be black.’

Eugenie Bouchard, on the up again and now facing Serena Williams in the second round, has debunked the theory that players are reluctant to map out their draws. 

Asked when she knew there was a possibility she would be facing the great American, she replied: ‘The moment the draw was done.’

Former world No 1 Victoria Azarenka was tearful after losing to Laura Siegemund of Germany. ‘I’ve been through a lot of things in my life,’ said Azarenka, who endured a custody battle over her son last year. ‘But I think they’re going to make me stronger.’
