Noah Lyles is an Olympic champion for the very first time after storming home to glory in the men’s 100m final by a whisker.

Lyles, who had to settle for second place in his semifinal earlier in the day, swept up his first Olympic gold by a fractions of a second in a time of 9.79 seconds on Sunday.

It marks the greatest moment of the 27-year-old’s career, following on from a bronze medal at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

He defeated K. Thompson, of Jamaica, with a score of 9.79 seconds, while fellow compatriot F. Kerley came in third to win the bronze medal (9.81 secs.).
