‘If you think it’s loud on the record, you have no idea!’ Noddy Holder’s wife reveals he wakes her up on December 25 each year by shouting his Slade catchphrase ‘It’s Christmas!’

Noddy Holder’s wife Suzan Price has revealed that the star wakes her up on December 25 each year by shouting his Slade catchphrase ‘It’s Christmas!’.

The 76-year-old singer’s hit Merry Xmas Everybody was the UK’s festive No.1 in 1973 and still features part of Susan and Noddy’s Christmas morning each year.

The pair – who share a 27-year old son Django – have been together for 32 years and married in 2004.

In her column in the latest Cheshire Life magazine she wrote:  ‘Christmas a deux with Noddy Holder has its moments and yes, he does wake me up on December 25th by bellowing….can you guess?

‘If you think it’s loud on the record, you have no idea!’

TV producer Suzan added: ‘Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would end up married to a man as synonymous with Christmas (almost) as much as Santa himself.

‘It’s a bit weird to know my husband is such a big part of everyone else’s festivities. Slade’s Merry Xmas Everybody will be 50 years old next year. The track is now as much a part of Christmas as crackers and cranberry sauce. ‘

She also said that she finds Christmas shopping a struggle at this time of year too as her husband’s voice ‘follows her everywhere’ – as the song is played in so many shops.

In the column she also shared a funny anecdote of a time when Noddy was shopping with their son Django who was four at the time when the song came on.

She then described how their little one screamed: ‘It’s your song Daddy! Daddy it’s YOU!’ which attracted the attention of most other shoppers.

The band formed in Wolverhampton in 1966 with drummer Don Powell and violinist/bassist Jim Lea alongside Holder and Dave Hill.

They became one of the biggest British rock bands of the 1970s, enjoying huge success with six number one singles.

Their biggest hit was Merry Christmas Everybody in 1973, with its memorable chorus: ‘So here it is, Merry Christmas/Everybody’s having fun…’

Holder and Lea left the band in 1992, with Hill and Powell continuing to perform as Slade with a variety of other singers and musicians.

But in 2020 Powell said he had been sacked from the band. He claimed Hill fired him by email without warning, something which Hill denies.

And in 2015 Holder said: ‘It saddens me that the four guys who were in Slade can’t get together and sit round the dinner table.

‘Five years ago I got the four of us together to air our grievances, but it was too painful.’

Holder and Hill sparked speculation the band was reforming when they posted a snap together in February.

The singer and the guitarist posed for a picture taken by Holder’s author wife Suzan which she uploaded to Instagram.

She captioned the image: ‘Lunch today. I will not be taking any further questions.’

Holder and Hill have not performed together since Holder quit the band in 1992. He has since said it would take a ‘miracle’ to get all four original members back together.
