Normal People star Sarah Greene welcomes her first child

Normal People’s Sarah Greene has revealed she welcomed her first child in January after a secret pregnancy.

In a new interview, the Irish actress, 36, enthused how ‘the last year has been life-changing in the best possible way’ as she became a mother to a baby boy earlier this year.

The screen star, who previously dated newly-married Aidan Turner, leads a relatively private life and the identity of her ‘musician partner’ is currently unclear.

On her parenthood journey, the stage performer told iNews: ‘We haven’t seen my family for months. We’ve had lovely bonding time, the three of us getting to know each other, but I can’t wait to show [our son] off a bit now.’

The singer also said she’s set to return to work in June, after wrapping up filming for her new Channel 4 comedy series Frank of Ireland with Domhnall and Brian Gleeson late last year.

On juggling her career with being pregnant, the Broadway star recalled: ‘That last week [of filming] was a bit of a blur – I remember waddling off set at the end of one day and Domhnall going, ”Oh my God, you are SO pregnant…”.

‘The costume girls did an amazing job of widening all the dresses because I was huge. I was just relieved we got to finish it, to be honest.’

The new parent received worldwide recognition for her role as Lorraine Waldron – the mother of lead character Connell (Paul Mescal) – in BBC’s Normal People.

The series had been adapted from Sally Rooney’s book of the same name and tells the story of two teenagers (Connell and Marianne, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones) in love from two different walks of life.

Sarah is also known for portraying Helen McCormick in the West End and Broadway productions of The Cripple of Inishmaan.

In the relationship department, the brunette dated Leonardo star Aidan, 37, from 2010 until 2015.

While the former couple split due to the challenges of long-distance romances, she previously said they remain close friends.

In an interview with RSVP magazine in 2016, Sarah explained: ‘We are still the best of friends and we ended the relationship with a lot of love, so I love him to bits.’

Aidan tied the knot to American actress Caitlin Fitzgerald last August during a secret ceremony in Italy.

A family source exclusively told MailOnline that the couple – who had been dating for three years – wed in Rome as they ‘didn’t want to wait’ during the Covid pandemic, and the actor’s parents were the only family members in attendance.

The insider added: ‘Aidan wouldn’t have got married without them,’ said the source. ‘The rest of the family heard about the wedding afterwards. Of course, everyone is delighted for him.

‘She’s lovely and they’re very happy. And of course, she had Irish roots, so that helps as well.

‘They’re no different to any young couple in love. They didn’t want to wait until after Covid to get married, so they just went ahead. Good luck to them.’
