A North Carolina man has been arrested after he allegedly stole an eight-week-old Yorkie puppy from his stepdaughter on New Year’s Day.

Christopher O’Neal Eakes, 41, is believed to have traded the dog in order to pay for meth.

The dog was then sold to another family, who was unaware it was stolen, according to WNCN.

‘We’ve heard of loved ones selling stuff from other family members and or friends, but as far as a dog or a pet, this is my first case,’ Wayne County Detective Scott Peele said.

The victim told the station she saw the dog advertised for sale on Facebook by the man she believes her stepdad traded the dog to.

The pup was then sold and the victim decided the animal was with a good family and allowed them to keep the dog

The sheriff’s office found the dog, but the victim decided the animal was with a good family and allowed them to keep the pup.

Detectives arrested Eakes on Monday and charged him with larceny of a dog.

He was booked under a $2,500 unsecured bond.
