The Norwegian Royal Court has shared a previously unseen throwback snap of the Queen with her great-aunt Queen Maud of Norway.
It follows the death of Her Majesty, who died ‘peacefully’ at Balmoral aged 96, on Thursday.
Since then, condolences have been pouring into the UK from Norway, thanks to the close bond shared by the two country’s royal families.
According to royal fan account @CoutureAndRoyals, the black and white snap, taken at Appleton House at Sandringham in 1929, shows a young Queen Elizabeth looking into the camera.

Behind her stands her great aunt Queen Maud, who became the Queen of Norway in 1905, following her 1896 marriage to Prince Carl (later King Haakon VII).
The older royal, dressed in a long tweed coat and hat, holds her great niece’s arm.
Meanwhile, a young Elizabeth, who’s wearing a buttoned frock coat with a cream collar, gazes quizzically into the camera lens.
The British monarchy shares a close bond with Norway: its current King, Harald, the the second cousin of Queen Elizabeth, as the two shared King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra (Queen Maud’s parents) as great-grandparents.

And beyond the familial ties, the families grew close during World War II, when the exiled Norwegian royals fled to the UK, later remaining close after the war ended.
Acknowledging the death of the Queen this week, the Norwegian Palace shared a statement on its website.
It said: ‘Our thoughts are with His Majesty The King and the members of the Royal Family on the loss of Queen Elizabeth.
‘For nearly a century, Her Majesty devoted her life to the service of the Commonwealth, following the British people through good days and bad, in times of happiness and sorrow.
‘We also send our condolences to the British people.’
