He was charged with his wife’s murder 24 hours later.

Mrs Virgo was found dead on Friday evening at the Grays Fair Court care home in New Costessey, Norwich.

Her husband was remanded in custody by the city’s magistrates yesterday. He will appear before the crown court today.

Mrs Virgo is understood to have been at Grays Fair Court for respite care. The home was rated ‘good’ following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission last year.

The Virgos lived ten miles north of Norwich in Buxton.

A neighbour, who has lived in the village for 30 years, described Mrs Virgo as ‘very friendly and a nice person to know’ and said she had been in and out of hospital.
