Nostalgic home cook serves up gourmet dinners inspired by PLANE food

A nostalgic wife is serving up elaborate dinners inspired by plane food to add a touch of humour to dinnertime while stuck at home in lockdown.

Zlata Radjenovic-Buneta, from Sydney, has been serving up the eye-popping plane-style meals for herself and her husband with the aim of replicating the menu and presentation of food on long-haul flights.

The catering for each ‘flight’ is also a reflection of the food available at the final destination, which she comes up with ahead of dinner.

Zlata’s first post showing off the quirky lockdown entertainment was posted on Facebook on July 29, she has since created her own page to share each meal.

The home cook had prepared some seashell pasta, boiled broccoli and fresh strawberries for the pretend trip.

The food was presented on a tray, with each item in a separate container, just like one would be served on a plane.

There was also a can of Coca Cola, a fruit cup, half a bread roll with cheese and butter, some nuts and cheese and crackers on the tray.

‘Since we can’t board a plane lets pretend, have fun and stay sane,’ she said.

‘Flight number two’ was with Asia Air, according to the creative cook who told FEMAIL the meals don’t take any longer than a ‘regular’ night time meal.

She prepared the tray as she had the first, with each food item in its own ramekin.

The tray featured fresh strawberries, cheese and crackers, dumplings, rice and a stir fry dish.

The picture of the third tray was posted on August 2 and instead of being a travel theme she desired to serve her husband up a jail house meal.

‘Sloppy risotto, lukewarm soup and devon. Fresh salad, fruits and tea,’ she labelled the picture.

‘This meal is a reflection of how most of us feel lately. Lets hope it ends soon,’ she wrote.

Despite the desperate look of the meal the home cook said it was ‘actually yum’.

‘I tried my best to make it as yuck looking as possible,’ she said.

Zlata said it doesn’t matter whether her family is being made to play the part of passengers or prisoners, the never complain about the inventive meals.

And people in the cooking group were impressed.

‘That looks better than anything I have ever had on a plane,’ one said.

‘You are seriously making my life. Travel-obsessed travel agent here,’ said another.

Others asked how much time and effort went into each of the meals.

‘Trust me, it is fuelled by boredom,’ Zlata said.
