Manny Pacquiao has been urged to retire by his own fans after the Filipino boxer was beaten by Yordenis Ugas in their WBA ‘super’ welterweight fight on Saturday.

The boxing icon went all 12 rounds with the Cuban fighter in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena but was comfortably deemed the loser of the fight by the judges, who presented a scorecard of 115-113 116-112 116-112 in favour of Ugas.

Pacquiao hinted Saturday night’s clash may be his final ever fight after a distinguished 26-year career and while he refused to confirm that following his defeat to Ugas, his own supporters have respectfully demanded he hang up his gloves.

One fan took to Twitter to say: ‘Love you, Manny. Thank you for all the fights. You are already immortal. Please rest and retire.’

Another posted: ‘Win, Loss or Draw you still a Legend. Nothing left to prove, what a career. Congratulations to a HOF career Manny Pacquiao but please Manny retire, think about your family. To Ugas great win congratulations, Ugas vs Spence next. #PacquiaoUgas’

Meanwhile, another supporter claimed: ‘It’s time for you to retire, Sen. Manny Pacquiao. Thank you for giving pride to the Philippines.’

The 42-year-old is comfortably deemed to be one of the greatest boxers of all time having held world titles in eight different divisions, the only fighter in the history of the sport to achieve that feat.

His record has now fallen to 62-8-2 following the defeat to Ugas, who was drafted in as a late injury replacement for Errol Spence Junior and the Cuban now has one of the biggest victories in his career.

Pacquiao came out of the blocks flying against Ugas, pushing him onto the ropes in the opening round. But age eventually caught up with the 42-year-old and a series of precise jabs from the Cuban helped him get over the line.

The Filipino, who also has a career in politics due to his role as a Senator in his home country, admitted he has not made a decision yet over his career.

When asked if it was his final fight, Pacquiao said: ‘I don’t know. I need to relax and make a decision.’

Speaking about Saturday night’s fight, the 42-year-old added: ‘That’s boxing. I had a hard time in the ring making adjustments. My legs were tight. I’m sorry I lost tonight, but I did my best.’

But fans were calling for Pacquiao to call it a day even before he stepped into the ring against Ugas, with the 42-year-old coming out to ‘Eye of the Tiger’ once again.

One tweet from before the fight read: ‘Manny should consider retiring after this even if he wins. If he tries to go after Spence after this showing I’m afraid Spence will be the one to retire Manny and not in the best way. #PacquiaoUgas’

Another social media post said: ‘Manny should retire after this fight; both in politics and boxing.’

One fan claimed: ‘Manny Pacquiao has done a lot for the sport, but it is about time he put up his gloves for good. Yordenis Ugas was always going to win against an old Pacman.’

Meanwhile, another said: ‘Pac this entire fight has mostly hit Ugas’ gloves or partially hit them on the way to his face and on the way to eating flush Ugas shots, and the 8th showed that extremely well. 7-1 Ugas. Even Manny’s wife is speechless because she knows he’s getting dominated.’
