A father who was left fighting for his life by a house fire which killed his wife and two children has been released from hospital a month after the tragedy.

Gavin Collison was pulled from his burning home near Newark, Nottinghamshire on December 15, as the blaze claimed the lives of his wife Justine, 32, their eight-year-old daughter Isabella and son Harvey, five.

An inquest into the three deaths today heard that, after more than a month of treatment, Mr Collison has now been discharged by doctors as he attempts to rebuild his life.

Gavin Collison, whose wife Justine and children Isabella and son died in a house fire last month, has been released from hospital, an inquest hearing has been told

Coroner Fiona Gingell today adjourned a full inquest into Justine, Isabella and Harvey’s deaths until the summer.

Ms Gingell were identified by Mrs Collison’s father, Gerald Sandford, as Mr Collison, a 34-year-old RAF engineer, was still in hospital.

The coroner said: ‘I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere condolences to the family for this terrible loss at this very difficult time.’

Justine’s mum Diane Fletcher, 53, who lived with the family, escaped the fire unscathed but the family’s beloved golden retriever dog also perished.

Neighbours told at the time how they had banged on the front door to try to wake the family after seeing flames in the conservatory.

Following the fire, messages of condolences were left in a tribute book at the family’s village church.

In a moving statement Helen Richardson, headteacher at John Blow Primary School in Collingham, told how ‘kind, caring and friendly ‘ Harvey was ‘very creative, always making models in the craft corner.

Of his elder sister she said: ‘She adored her younger brother Harvey, frequently asking at playtime if she and a friend could go and check if he was settling into school.

‘It has been a privilege to know and share in Izzy and Harvey’s lives, so unexpectedly cut short and they will remain with warm fondness in our hearts forever.’
