The incredible winning streak in 2008 forced bookmakers nationwide to shut down that particular betting option, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Former NRL statistic expert Andrew Moufarrige claimed in 2014 the official statistics were altered to ensure the punter won, however, police found a lack of evidence to support the claim.

The sport’s governing body said they did not perform an in-depth investigation four years ago because evidence did not stand up, but now they are planning to explore new angles.

‘The NRL has been approached to examine further material and naturally we will do that before determining whether any investigation is warranted,’ an NRL spokesperson told the publication.

Mr Moufarrige said while it was good the investigation would be reopened, he questioned why it had taken so long, according to 9News.

The popular game has had its fare share of gambling controversies over the years.

Two years ago, Manly were investigated over match fixing allegations but no evidence was found.
