NRL fullback’s embarrassing series of bungles saw Queensland Cup side lose semi-final

NRL star’s 60 seconds from hell: A series of bungles saw Queensland Cup side sensationally lose semi-final despite leading 24-0

  • The Tweed Head Seagulls had a big lead over the Sunshine Coast Falcons
  • However the Melbourne Storm feeder club came roaring back into the content
  • Jamayne Isaako was a late inclusion for the Seagulls for the semi-final
  • He had a final 60 seconds to forget that ultimately cost the Seagulls the match

Former Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans NRL star Jamayne Isaako has had 60 seconds of football he wishes he could take back in a disastrous conclusion to a Queensland Cup reserve grade semi-final on the weekend.

The versatile New Zealand international was a late inclusion for the Tweed Head Seagulls in their semi-final against Melbourne Storm feeder club Sunshine Coast Falcons.

With their season on the line, the Seagulls surged out to a 24-0 lead at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

Isaako looked at his flashy best in the early exchanges with a magnificent pass to put Titans young star Treymain Spry over for a try before scoring himself.

But when the Falcons surged back into the contest, disaster struck. The scores were locked at 24-all at fulltime, forcing the game into overtime.

The Falcons kicked off and Isaako was faced with a brute of a bomb and the sun in his eyes, eventually missing the catch and watching the ball roll into touch.

That meant the Seagulls were forced to drop the ball out from their own goal line and Isaako looked for redemption but putting the ball up short to try and regain possession.

Unfortunately the ball didn’t travel the required 10 metres, gifting the Falcons a penalty shot right in front and consigning the Seagulls to the cruellest of season-ending losses.

Isaako was faced with an extremely changing kick off with the sun in his eyes in golden point

‘Not only did Tweed lead 24-0 and still s*** the bed. Poor Jamayne got caught in the in-goal off the kick-off in Golden Point and then proceeded to try a short dropout that didn’t go the 10 metres and gave the Falcons a penalty goal 10m out straight in front to win the game,’ footy fan Eden Richards tweeted.

Isaako has been signed by new NRL club Redcliffe Dolphins and will be looking to cement his place in coach Wayne Bennett’s top 13 during the off-season.

He is also hopeful of representing New Zealand at the Rugby League World Cup although he also has the option of playing for Tier 2 nation Samoa.
