NRL star Josh Reynolds has been charged with assaulting his long-term partner after an alleged altercation that left her bruises to her arms and legs.

Reynolds, 30, will face Sutherland Local Court, in Sydney’s south, next Wednesday to face one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.

It is alleged the Wests Tigers playmaker handed himself into St George Police Station on Wednesday night, hours after his girlfriend Arabella Del Busso had presented with her injuries.

Police have also taken out an apprehended violence order (AVO) against Reynolds on behalf of Ms Del Busso.

The pair, who have been dating for a number of years, opened up last year about the pain Ms Del Busso was suffering a miscarriage while expecting twins.

‘How do I comfort her when I’m struggling myself,’ Reynolds told Channel Seven.

‘And because it is a lot harder for females because they go through it, growing inside them.

‘I was really shocked but I really wanted to be a man and be there for her too.’

Reynolds has been referred to the NRL’s Integrity Unit over the recent incident, with the league confirming in a statement that they were investigating the five-eighth.

‘This morning NSW Police advised the Integrity Unit that Wests Tigers player Josh Reynolds had been charged with a domestic violence offence,’ a statement read.

‘The NRL takes any allegation of violence or disrespect towards women extremely seriously.

Reynolds’ alleged offence comes amid heightened scrutiny on NRL players this off-season, following a horror spate of incidents last year.

Earlier this year the NRL enacted a “no fault” stand down policy, allowing CEO Todd Greenberg to use his discretion to suspend players charged with criminal offences, particularly those involving women and children.

Manly Sea Eagles player Dylan Walker and Penrith’s Tyrone May were both stood down for the duration of the court process under the law.

The maximum jail term for assault occasioning actual bodily harm in NSW is five years, which falls below the requirements to trigger an automatic stand down.
