NS&I savers switch back to cheques for their Premium Bond winnings

NS&I savers switch back to cheques for their Premium Bond winnings after our campaign victory

NS&I backtracked on plans to axe Premium Bond prize cheques after our campaign

Savers pressured by National Savings and Investments (NS&I) to have Premium Bond winnings paid directly into bank accounts can switch back to cheques.

The bank has ditched plans to axe the popular prize cheques following a Money Mail campaign.

Last year NS&I sent millions of letters to customers asking for their bank details.

But NS&I has now said customers can request to switch back to cheques — and 470 savers have already done so.

Money Mail reader Brian Roots, 70, says he felt ‘pushed into’ having prizes paid into his bank account.

But after calling NS&I last week, he has been allowed to revert back to cheques. ‘They changed my account and my wife’s in just a few minutes,’ the retired accountant adds.

An NS&I spokesman says: ‘We recognise some customers wanted the option of receiving prizes through the post.’
