NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has become an unlikely TikTok star after being edited into a viral music video.

The clip, by TikTok user Gladystobehere, shows the politician superimposed on footage of people wearing masks, drivers lining up for Covid tests and empty streets.

The soundtrack to the video is the hit single Stay, by Sydney-born rapper The Kid Laroi and pop superstar Justin Bieber.

One part of the video shows Berejiklian, 50, with NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant as a heart is displayed in the background.

The lyrics to Stay appear to mimic what Gladystobehere thinks of the premier’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.

The words go: ‘I do the same / I told you that I never would / I told you that I would change / even when I knew I never could / I know that I can’t.’

The video at one point cuts to several unmasked Sydneysiders walking on a beach as the song goes: ‘I need you to stay (home) / I need you to stay (home).’

In addition to going viral on TikTok, the clip has reached a wide audience on Instagram after being shared by the popular Brown Cardigan meme account.

New South Wales recorded 97 local cases of Covid-19 overnight as Berejiklian holds crisis talks about tightening Sydney’s lockdown.
