They followed the car for a kilometre as they drove alongside the car that was travelling 90km/h in a 100km/h zone.

The driver looked down and wrote on the notebook several times while officers watched.

Police stopped the driver and issued them with an infringement notice for negligent driving.

Other motorists have slammed the driver and revealed other instances they’ve seen a similar situation happen.

‘This is worse than using a mobile phone – but it’s only neg driving,’ one person commented online.

Another said: ‘That’s shocking ! It’s any wonder so many innocent lives are lost on our roads!’

A third said: Passed a bloke just south of Goulburn doing the same thing. Came up beside him and gave him the horns don’t think he even knew I was there. Unreal.’
