A woman has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after a nursing home resident was allegedly tied to a chair in south Sydney.

A 73-year-old woman told police her left leg had been tied to a chair with a plastic bag, causing severe bruising and pain, while she was being showered at the home in Little Bay on Monday.

A 67-year-old nursing assistant at the home was charged on Tuesday and granted conditional bail to appear in Waverley Local Court on January 9.

An apprehended violence order has also been taken out on the injured woman’s behalf and the accused has been stood down by her employer.
