Elderly residents of a nursing home weren’t going to let the coronavirus pandemic get in the way of their bingo game.

A heartwarming photo emerged online of residents managing to play in a hallway without risking contracting the deadly virus.

Each one sat on a chair in front of their door with their bingo cards on a portable table in front of them.

The separation between each room meant they were unable to pass on coronavirus to each other due to appropriate social distancing.

A staff member or relative appeared to be walking along the hallway to make sure each player heard the number after it was called.

Elderly people are the most at risk of dying from the disease that has killed more than 24,000 people around the world.

Australia has lost 13 people so far, all aged 69 or older, with 3,050 infected since the start of the outbreak.

Three of the first casualties were at Dorothy Henderson Lodge aged care home in Sydney’s northwest.

Some countries like Britain have quarantined everyone over a certain age, along with those suffering from underlying conditions, to save their lives.

It was not known exactly where the nursing home in the photo was, but social media users said the scene was common in many facilities.

‘Similar thing happening in my mum’s nursing home,’ one woman commented when the image was posted in a Perth Facebook group.

‘I can just hear from down the corridor, “what was that number again?” Stay strong, dear elderly folk,’ another wrote.
