Greek yoghurt

Due to its low sugar content and high-level of protein, sugar acts as a healthier alternative to other varieties of the snack.

According to Susie, those seeking a spring awakening should opt for one which also contains probiotics.

‘The live bacteria that will help to feed the good bacteria in the gut,’ she said.

Greek yoghurt is recommended to be eaten as a snack, with a smoothie, or as part of a breakfast combination.

Prawns

Renowned for their protein dense make up and low calorie count, prawns are a tasty option when paired with complementary spring snacks.

But Susie says this may also come with a diner’s detriment, saying: ‘The biggest issue with prawns is what we eat them with’.

‘If they are deep fried, or served with creamy sauces and dressings, the fat content will be significantly increased.’

Lemons

When coupled with the spring sunshine, a lemon can be added to nearly any meal to bring with it a zest for the new season.

A great source of Vitamin C, the fruit is an easy source of flavour to the seasonal meals that come with the warmer weather.

‘It helps to lower the GI of carb based meals and for some it can be a great ritual when teamed with a glass of water to start the day by re-hydrating,’ Susie added.

Blueberries

Bursting with both flavour and colour, blueberries are simply synonymous with warmer months.

They are also packed with antioxidants, which can be much needed after a winter slump.

According to Susie: ‘Any berries are fab but blueberries in particular are packed full of antioxidants, Vitamin C, fibre whilst also being relatively low in calories.’

Spinach

Although it may have been bumped by kale as the trendiest green vegetable, spinach still holds its place among the most nutritious.

‘The dark green leaves of spinach gives some insight into its rich nutrient content; spinach leaves are a rich source of Vitamin C, E, K beta carotene and folate,’ she said.

Susie also advises cooking spinach in olive oil to enhance nutrient absorption.

White fish

A lauded superfood, white fish is among the best options for those seeking weight loss, according to Susie.

‘Exceptionally high in protein, low in fat and calories, any type of white fish ranging is a superfood when it comes to weight loss,’ she explained.

It also carries a low level of saturated fat and is notoriously high in both Vitamin B6 and Magnesium.

Green tea

Although not technically a food, Green Tea is brimming with benefits for both weight loss and internal health.

‘If you are looking for a fat burning boost, adding in a couple of cups of green tea to your day is the way to go,’ Susie wrote.

Coming in a variety of flavours, Matcha is set to be the best option for those seeking to slim down before summer.
