NYC Target worker and 16-year-old boy fall THREE FLOORS down elevator shaft: Teen was being escorted out of store when they got into scuffle and bumped into elevator doors

  • A Target worker and a boy, 16, fell three stories down a life shaft during a fight
  • The worker fell through a gab between the cab and shaft trapping him below
  • They fell at around 11.15am but the worker was not hoisted out until 12.30pm
  • Firefighters were able to swiftly rescue the 16-year-old boy who fell onto the cab

A Target employee and a 16-year-old boy fell three floors down an elevator shaft after getting into a physical fight in a New York City store.

They rammed through the closed elevator doors at the Bronx Target at around 11.15am – causing the pair to plummet and land on the elevator, which was beneath them in the empty shaft.

The boy landed on top of the elevator cab, whereas the security guard employee, 29, fell between the walls of the cab and the shaft and then into the pit below.

He remained trapped there and was hoisted from the elevator pit around an hour later. He’s said to be in a critical condition, NYPD and FDNY officers said.

The security guard was escorting the teen, thought to be a shoplifter, out of the Target when the violent fight took place.

The male employee was taking the 16-year-old boy out from the store when a fight broke out, police said after a preliminary investigation.

When firefighters arrived they found the boy on top of the elevator, which was below the open doors, FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief John Sorrocco said during a press conference, NY Daily News reported.

FDNY staff were required to cut the power to the elevator before fire fighters were able to descend the shaft and hoist the man out using a pulley.

‘The first victim was moved immediately,’ Sorrocco said.

‘The second victim, it was a more difficult operation. He was underneath the elevator. We had to secure the elevator and set the brake,’ he added.

Firefighters had to lift up the man to get him out of the elevator pit, which was roughly 15 feet below.

Footage showed dozens of emergency servicemen rushing to the scene as they carried the victims of the elevator fall into an ambulance.

The teenager was rescued first and taken to Harlem hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The Target worker who was stuck in the elevator pit, was hoisted out at around 12.30pm.

The worker appeared conscious as he lay on a spine board and received medical attention. He was as he was taken by ambulance to Lincoln hospital.

He is believed to be in a critical condition.
