‘Karl put up his hand on air approximately a few months ago telling me he wanted my help and kudos to him,’ Dr. Fuller said.

‘Women are usually the first to admit they have a problem when it comes to weight but it’s rare men do anything about it until a serious health scare happens. We need more male public figures and celebrities to follow suit.’

Dr. Fuller said Karl will continue to follow an interval weight loss program to shed the extra pounds.

‘He has reported that “it was easy” and will stick with the program long-term, aiming to lose another 5-7kg,’ Dr. Fuller said.

‘The biggest thing he has benefited from is the big to small meals throughout the day. Karl is well on the way to achieving his goal weight loss of 90kg and importantly keeping the weight off.’

He added: ‘I’ll continue working with him to ensure he forms life-long habits and so he keeps mixing up his routine to prevent old habits creeping back in.’

Dr. Fuller said that Karl would have lost more weight during his 10-week challenge, but he forced him to ‘put the brakes on and have a month off (from weeks 4 to 8) to allow his body to reset at its new set point.’

He finished: ‘I didn’t want him or allow him to lose 15kg in that period of time.’

On the Today show on Tuesday, Karl, 45, proudly revealed he’d weighed himself at home that morning and had shed an impressive eight kilos.

In May, the father-of-four had vowed to lose 10 kilograms in 10 weeks.

The Channel Nine star admitted it had been tough finding the time to exercise but said he was feeling ‘great.’

‘In the last couple of weeks it’s been difficult with the baby and all that sort of stuff,’ he said, referring to his youngest daughter, Harper, who was born in May.

‘It is life getting in the way of it a little bit, but it’s been a fantastic program,’ he added, thanking Dr. Fuller, who had supported him throughout his journey.

‘It’s been toughest to find the time to exercise.’

Karl revealed that his program, which included a lighter evening meal, had helped him get to sleep much quicker and left him feeling more refreshed in the morning.

Karl acknowledged he did have difficulty about halfway through the program, and found that having a cheat day on Friday was helpful.

‘What really worked for me was being good from Sunday to Friday and then having a bit of a cheat meal on Friday – as long as that doesn’t then bleed into Saturday and Sunday,’ he said.

After vowing to lose weight in May, Karl admitted he was embarrassed before his first weigh-in to have the number revealed on air.

KARL’S TYPICAL DAY ON A PLATE

BREAKFAST: An omelette on wholegrain bread for breakfast, with some fruit and yoghurt

LUNCH: A toasted sandwich made from wholegrain bread with a source of protein, including tuna or chicken and avocado, packed with salad. Salad is another option

DINNER: For dinner, a protein like fish, chicken, meat or beans should be consumed with wholegrain carbs like brown rice or quinoa, and unlimited salad or vegetables

‘It is pretty embarrassing, and I have to admit that, to go and say, “Alright, I’m going to weigh myself on national TV”,’ he said.

Karl’s weight at the time he started the program was 105kg.

On Tuesday, he confirmed he was down to 97kg, and had a goal weight of 90 kilos.

Dr. Fuller previously told Daily Mail Australia about the typical diet on the interval weight loss program.

A sample diet, similar to the type Karl follows, includes an omelette on wholegrain bread for breakfast, followed up with some fruit and yoghurt.

For lunch, people should opt for a toasted sandwich made from wholegrain bread with a source of protein, including tuna or chicken and avocado, packed with salad. Salad is another option, with quinoa.

For dinner, a protein like fish, chicken, meat or beans should be consumed with wholegrain carbs like brown rice or quinoa, and unlimited salad or vegetables.

‘As long as it’s balanced with a carb, protein, and healthy fat, to tick off for every meal,’ Dr. Fuller said.
