Oklahoma law school student expelled for posting ‘It’s Okay to be White’ flyers on campus

Oklahoma law school student is questioned by FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and expelled for posting ‘It’s Okay to be White’ flyers on campus

  • Student at Oklahoma City University School of Law was expelled in November for coming onto campus in violation of his previous suspension to post signs
  • Flyers plastered on campus read, ‘It’s okay to be white,’ which is a catchphrase used by white supremacist groups
  • The student was previously suspended for writing in his Tinder bio that he is looking for a girl who has never been with a ‘black guy’
  • Signs similar to the ones found on OCU’s campus have been reported at other colleges, including at the University of Vermont and Champlain College

Oklahoma City University School of Law has expelled an already suspended student for plastering flyers on campus on Halloween that read, ‘It’s Okay to be white.’

OCU Police Director Bill Citty said the male student violated the terns of his suspension by being present on school property on October 31.

The phrase ‘It’s Okay to be white’ originated on the anonymous Internet forum 4chan and has come to be associated with white supremacist groups.

Over the past few months, signs similar to the ones found on OCU’s campus have been reported at other colleges around the US, including at the University of Vermont, Champlain College and East Tennessee State University.

These flyers bearing the white nationalist catchphrase ‘It’s okay to be white’ that appeared on Oklahoma City University campus in October have led to the expulsion of a law student

Citty told The Oklahoman that the now-former law student is not considered a physical threat to the campus. The university has not named the student citing federal privacy laws.

However, the expelled student broke his silence last month in an interview with The Red Elephants, an alt-right media outlet, telling host Vincent James that he has been questioned by an agent with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force about the flyers.

The student said the federal official, whom he characterized as a ‘good dude,’ reassured him that he committed no crime.

OCU’s police director confirmed that the expelled student is not facing a charge of trespassing for violating the terms of his suspension by appearing on campus to leave the flyers.

In his interview with The Red Elephants, the student revealed that he had been suspended earlier this year over the content of his Tinder profile.

His bio on the dating site read: ‘I want a girl who doesnt apply makeup by the pound, doesnt have bigger muscles than me, takes care of her body and has self respect, doesnt care about sports and hasnt been with a black guy, doesnt have kids and doesnt feel the need to dress like a hooker and go out drinking all the time.’

The student said someone took screenshots of his Tinder profile and forwarded them to his dean, resulting in his suspension from studies following a semester-long investigation.

‘I had this hanging over my head for a whole semester,’ he lamented.

In a statement to students and faculty sent following the discovery of the flyers on campus, OCU law school Dean Jim Roth praised the group that took down the signs and brought them to the attention of the administration.

‘Despite what the intentions of that message may have been, the message reminds me of one fact that I know our community embraces — it’s okay to be EVERYBODY,’ Roth said in a statement. ‘Exclusion and hate will not be tolerated here. You are accepted at OCU Law no matter how you pray, what you look like, or who you love. And you always will be.’

Dean Roth sent a letter to the student responsible for disseminating the signs on November 13, informing him of his expulsion effective immediately.

Addressing the incident with the flyers, the student said on James’ show in late November, ‘I really didn’t think I did anything wrong.’

He also invoked Nick Fuentas, a white nationalist activist who hot the America First podcast, thanking him and other alt-right media personalities, including The Red Elephants’ Vincent James, for their work.

‘If not for people like you guys, I probably would’ve just been scared inot a hole and not ever come forward to say anything about this,’ he said.
