Olivia Newton-John, 71, gives fans a health update amid her stage-four breast cancer battle… and talks her use of medicinal cannabis

Olivia Newton-John has given fans a health update amid her stage-four breast cancer battle, revealing that her tumours have shrunk.

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph this week, the 71-year-old said that using medicinal cannabis and natural remedies has improved her health.

Describing it as being ‘so incredible,’ Olivia told the publication: ‘My tumours are receding or they’re going away or they’re staying the same, on a Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer — that’s pretty amazing.’

‘If I hadn’t had the experience I’m having with cannabis I wouldn’t be able to talk about it.’

Explaining why she’s advocating for the use of medicinal cannabis, the iconic singer said: ‘For me the proof is in the pudding and I’m the pudding.’

The Grease star said that it has helped her with both ‘pain and sleep,’ with her cancer having spread to her lower back.

Olivia said a ‘holistic combination’ has helped her.

Olivia has been a passionate advocate for medicinal cannabis, with her Cancer and Wellness Centre launching trials this year.

She has also spent time lobbying the Australian government to approve the use of the treatment.

Olivia was diagnosed with her third bout of cancer in 2017, after she was successfully cured of the disease twice in 1992 and 2013.

Speaking during the Wellness Walk and Research Run in Melbourne in October, the actress told the gathered crowd: ‘I’m right here, right now, alive and healthy.’

‘I was flat on my back in the centre [the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre] and this year, through treatment and medicinal cannabis, I am feeling fantastic.’

‘I hope to be able to soon offer that to everyone – that’s my dream.’

Olivia spoke out about her use of medicinal cannabis during an interview with Australian 60 Minutes last August.

Olivia has been fighting her illness with cannabis grown for her by her husband, John Easterling, in their Santa Barabara home in California.

Before turning to the plant she described as a ‘safe alternative,’ the actress went through ‘months and months of excruciating, sleep-depriving, crying out loud pain’.

‘When I broke my sacrum, I was on morphine because the pain was intense,’ she said.

‘I was terrified of starting it because I know it’s a hard thing to ween off but I am now off it and I weened myself off it with cannabis.’

Olivia said she consulted the alternative treatment with her doctors, who were supported her decision.

‘It’s not a drug. You see, that’s the problem. That’s a name thrown around with cannabis – it’s a herb and a plant,’ she said.
