Olly Murs explains how doctors had two hours to save his leg due to suspected sepsis

Olly Murs has shed further light on his recent knee trauma – and that he had to go under the knife for a second time when doctors believed he had sepsis.

Speaking about it to The Sun, Olly, 36, recounted the ordeal from last year – which involved a metal plate in his knee becoming infected after having knee surgery three months prior.

He was called by his surgeon who said, ‘You need to come into London now. We need to operate within the next couple of hours. Go and get a bag,’ according to Olly.

Sepsis and the city: Olly Murs has shed further light on his recent knee trauma – and that he had to go under the knife for a second time when doctors believed he had sepsis

‘They had to open me up again in case the infection spread. So it got nasty,’ he explained, before admitting he didn’t tell his girlfriend about it as she was in Ibiza at a hen weekend.

Body-builder Amelia Tank, 27, visited him in hospital as soon as she returned to the UK, ‘smelling of alcohol’ and having ‘lost her voice’.

‘I think if anything she needed the bed more than I did. Bless her, she just looked like when you come home from a really heavy weekend,’ Olly recalled.

In June, Olly reflected on the ‘hard’ year he’s had following his knee surgery as he shared a video of his recovery journey to Instagram.

Olly admitted it has been a tough 12 months for him, both ‘mentally as well as physically’ and thanked his physio and personal trainer for getting him through it.

The short compilation video showed Olly’s X-rays as well as clips of him regaining his strength with a mix of gruelling fitness training and a range of physiotherapy.

Olly captioned the video: ‘It’s been 12 hard Months after my ACL reconstruction!

‘I can’t tell you how tough it’s been mentally as well as physically but after being told if I didn’t do this I’d need a Knee replacement at 40.

‘So I needed to act! still have a long way to go but wow it feels good! Here is a little short video to show my journey x.

Last year, Olly made the announcement about his knee surgery on his Instagram, by sharing three posts of himself laid up in a hospital bed.

The star admitted that he would be going off social media for following few months to focus on his recovery.

One of the photo’s showed the hitmaker’s bandaged left blooded leg while a short video displayed his leg secured in a brace from his thigh to his ankle as he balanced on crutches.

Admitting he was ‘putting on a brave face’ for his fans, the Dear Darlin’ singer joked he will be finding it hard to sit still while he recovers from the surgery but is looking forward to the ‘rest’.

He said: ‘Hey guys!! Quick update from me! I’m putting on a brave face for the gram but this week I’ve been recovering from serious knee surgery, something I’ve needed for sometime.

He continued: ‘I’m not quite sure how I’m going to cope sitting still like this for the next few months its going to kill me but it’s what’s needed.
