Australian Olympic swimmer Michael Klim has had a cyst removed from his throat at a prominent cancer hospital in Sydney.

The 43-year-old shared the news on Instagram on Friday, revealing he’d undergone a number of procedures and was managing his pain with medication.

The Polish-born athlete shared a series of photos and videos from his hospital bed while recovering at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, a cancer treatment center in Camperdown.

‘Another procedure done this time to remove a cyst in my throat,’ Michael captioned one selfie.

‘Enjoying the pain relief!’ he added. 

The gold medallist, who shares three children with ex-wife Lindy Klim, appeared to be staying positive despite the surgery.

The father-of-three, who shares his children with ex-wife Lindy Klim, shared a video from his hospital bed showing the view from his window and of the machines. 

‘My view for the next day or so!’ he wrote. 

He also shared a video of his girlfriend Michelle Owen helping him drink through a straw, writing: ‘My nurse has arrived, I’m a lucky man.’

Michelle also shared a black and white photo of Michael in hospital and wrote: ‘Get well soon lover.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Michael and his management for comment, in relation to this story. 

In July last year, Michael was spotted walking on crutches. He broke his leg in January last year.  

Michael is one of Australia’s swimming greats, who famously won a gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. 

He retired from the pool in 2007, before announcing his return in 2011. But his bid for a comeback failed when he failed to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics.
