The murdered victim of last night’s grisly stabbing outside Harrods has been named as 26-year-old Omani student Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Araimi
The murdered victim of last night’s stabbing outside Harrods has been named as 26-year-old Omani student Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Araimi.
Mr Al Araimi was walking home from a restaurant in Knightsbridge, London, when he was jumped by a gang of masked muggers demanding his luxury watch, believed to be a Rolex.
A friend of the victim told MailOnline that Mr Al Araimi tried to fight back but was knifed during the struggle.
He was found unconscious with a blade wound to the back and was pronounced dead at the scene on Brompton Road at around 1am Friday morning.
After 24 hours of horrific violence in the capital where three victims in their 20s were killed, the Oman Embassy said: ‘A regrettable stabbing attack took place, claiming the life of the Omani student, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Araimi.
‘With great sadness and sorrow, the Embassy in London extends its condolences to the family of the deceased.’
Mr Al Araimi, from Princes Gate Apartments, Knightsbridge, is believed to have lived in the UK for the last three years.
The victim’s friend said: ‘Mohammad was walking past Harrods last night with a friend of his from Bahrain when they were confronted by muggers.
‘One of the thieves tried to steal Mohammad’s expensive watch – I think a Rolex – but he fought back. There was a struggle and he was stabbed.

‘His friend tried to help and was also stabbed. Mohammad sadly died but his friend survived and is in hospital at the moment.’
Mr Al Araimi’s parents – who are being supported by the Omani Embassy – are flying into the capital, the friend said.
He added: ‘This is a truly awful, shocking crime to happen in the middle of London in front of such a famous department store known all around the world.
‘Surely there must be CCTV cameras that have picked up something the police can use.’
Scotland Yard detectives have launched a murder investigation and confirmed a second man suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Chief Inspector Andy Partridge said: ‘It appears that the victims were going home having just attended a nearby restaurant.
‘They were approached by two males on Basil Street, at the junction with Pavillion Road. It was here that the two male suspects confronted the victims.
‘Although at an early stage, we believe that the victims were approached in order to steal property from them and were attacked during that encounter.’
Mr Al Araimi was among three men in their 20s who were killed in a bloody 24 hours in the capital last night, in Deptford and Hackney.
The Metropolitan Police do not believe the deaths were linked, and condemned the senseless killings as a ‘tragedy’.
Tonight a 14-year-old boy was rushed to hospital in Harrow with stab wounds which are non-life threatening.

Crosslom Davis, 20 – a rapper known as Bis – is believed to the murdered victim of the Deptford attack just after 3.30am on Friday.
England footballer Jadon Sancho, 19, led tributes online to the member of the Harlem Spartans group, based in Kennington, south London.
The Borussia Dortmund winger tweeted: ‘Rest up bis,’ with a picture of the victim, who detectives are confident is Davis.
Sancho was born and raised in Kennington, but signed for Watford when he was seven and moved to north London aged 12 to be nearer the club.
At 14, he signed for Manchester City before moving the Borussia Dortmond aged 17.
Davis was pronounced dead about 12 and a half hours after Exauce Ngimbi, 22, was killed in an unrelated attack in Hackney, east London.
Mr Ngimbi was pronounced dead shortly after 2.30pm Thursday, after an altercation with a group, Scotland Yard said.
Another man, who was with the victim, was also knifed in the attack, which is believed to have been carried out by two males, who detectives believe were trying to steal from them.
He remains in hospital, where his injuries are described as not life-threatening.

The luxury department store was open on Friday, while a crime scene remained in place.
Police vehicles were parked at either end of taped-off Hans Crescent, with a white evidence tent erected in the middle of the street running down the side of the shop.
Scotland Yard has arrested three men, one aged 23 and two aged 26, and a 14-year-old boy, over the murder of Mr Ngimbi.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine said: ‘Exauce’s family are devastated but I want to assure them, and the wider public, that we will work tirelessly to ensure those responsible for this murder face justice.’
Detective Chief Inspector John Massey, who is leading the investigation into Mr Davis’s death, said: ‘While we tirelessly work to piece together the events that sadly led to a young man losing his life, I would appeal to those who have information to do the right thing and speak to us.
‘If you saw anything out of the ordinary, no matter how insignificant you think it is, then please contact my team as a matter of urgency, as your information could prove vital to our inquiries and could help bring those responsible for this heinous violent act to justice.’

Commander Jane Connors sought to reassure members of the public following the recent outbreak of bloodshed.
She said: ‘Over the past 24 hours there have been three murders in London, in Lower Clapton, Deptford and Knightsbridge.
‘These are not linked.
‘Each one of these attacks is a tragedy, not just for the victims and their families and friends, but for our wider communities who are left reeling by this senseless violence.
‘And the common factor in each one is that someone was willing to carry a knife on the streets of our capital.
‘Our highly-experienced teams of detectives and investigators are working relentlessly to determine exactly what happened and bring those responsible to justice.
‘Sadly, they are extremely experienced in confronting the aftermath of such terrible acts and I know that they will approach this task with diligence, determination and compassion.
‘Tackling violence is the number one priority for the Metropolitan Police.
‘Tonight, and over the weekend, residents will see more officers on patrol in the areas where these murders took place as well as other parts of London.
‘This highly-visible policing presence will include officers from our reserve units, including the Territorial Support Group, the Violent Crime Task Force and armed units.
‘This is in addition to hundreds of local borough officers who are already on the streets as part of their day-to-day duties.
‘But police do not work in isolation. We can only tackle violence together and need the help of the public to identify those willing to carry knives or involved in these violent acts.
‘We are grateful for those who already have had the courage to speak to us about those they know pose a danger to others.
‘It makes our resolve even stronger to provide these grieving families the justice they deserve.
‘Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They are a totally independent charity and you remain anonymous, they never ask your name and they cannot trace your call.’
