On-duty police officer, 47, sexually assaulted a domestic abuse victim as she hid from her partner in a hotel, court hears

An on-duty police officer has been accused of sexually assaulting domestic abuse victim as she hid from her partner in a hotel, a court has heard. 

PC Rudvelle Walters, 47, allegedly entered the hotel in Wembley with his body camera switched off and knocked on the woman’s door after she was reported missing.  

The officer, who remains on restricted duties, allegedly spoke to the woman and asked her for a kiss at about 5am on 5 February 2019.

He is said to have touched the alleged victim’s bottom and attempted to put his hand inside her knickers.

The officer allegedly noticed a second woman lying naked on the bed in the hotel room and tried to pull away the duvet to lean in for a kiss, Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Walters appeared in court today charged with two counts of attempted sexual assault and one of of sexual assault.

He indicated not guilty pleas to all three charges before the case was sent up to Southwark Crown Court.

Prosecuting, Misba Majid said: ‘This matter is not suitable for summary trial.

‘This is a case where the defendant was working as an on-duty serving police officer.

‘A report went out to police with the defendant then being requested to attend the hotel, he was let in by the concierge service.

‘When the defendant got inside the hotel, he carried out some questioning with the first victim about why she was there. He then asked her for a kiss.’

Ms Majid said the woman asked Walters why his body camera was off but the officer did not give her a straight answer.

She said: ‘She then asked him about why his body worn footage had not been activated. He asked her how she knew that.

‘He wanted a kiss from the second victim, the second alleged victim was lying on the bed, the second victim was naked.

‘The defendant attempted to rip he duvet off her repeatedly to try and give her a kiss.’

Walters was granted unconditional bail ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing at Southwark Crown Court on September 8.
