One person has died following a shooting near the University of Utah and students have been told to take shelter.
Salt Lake City police Sgt. Brandon Shearer told The Salt Lake Tribune ‘one person is confirmed deceased’.
The Salt Lake City Police Department confirmed it received a report of a man being shot in the head, according to the NY Daily News.
The University of Utah tweeted: ‘CAMPUS ALERT: Shots fired, Red Butte Canyon. Shelter in place. MORE INFORMATION TO COME’
Students have been told to take shelter following reports of shots fired at the university (pictured)
At around 9pm local time, the university tweeted: ‘CAMPUS ALERT: Shots fired, Red Butte Canyon. Shelter in place. MORE INFORMATION TO COME.’
There are also reports that the University of Utah Hospital is also on lockdown.
The shooter is reportedly on the run and police are searching for them.
‘CAMPUS ALERT: Suspect male, white adult. Black clothing, beanie with cross, tear-drop tattoo on face. Possible forest green pick-up CO plate,’ the university tweeted around an hour later.
