Insurance fail: 22 per cent of travel policies do not cover cancellations

Almost a quarter of single-trip travel insurance policies will not cover cancellation claims relating to the pandemic, research shows.

More than three quarters provide enhanced Covid-19 cover as standard, which offers some form of cancellation  cover if holidaymakers can no longer travel due to the coronavirus.

But 22 per cent do not cover cancellations and experts urge people to check the small print.

Comparison website Forbes Advisor UK analysed 90 single-trip policies from 33 travel firms. It found policies with Covid-19 protection are not always more costly.

The cheapest price for a couple in their mid-30s going on a two-week holiday to Cyprus at the end of June this year is £15.63, Covid cover included.
