The shooter remains at large, and police could describe him only as a lone black male.

The shooting occurred immediately outside of the football stadium, near security screening points where fans had been screened with metal detector wands when they entered.

Police said that about 4,000 people attended the game and 1,000 were still leaving the stadium when the shooting occurred.

The police response was immediate, as about 50 police officers were working at the game, due to security concerns stemming from prior violence at games.

At a press briefing, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Director of Investigations and Homeland Security declined to speculate on whether the shooting was gang or drug related.

He also would not comment on whether the shooting may have been related to multiple fights that were said to have broken out in the stadium during the game.

Police are hopeful that because the shooting occurred in the midst of a large crowd, that someone will come forward with information to help investigators.

School officials said they would convene on Sunday to discuss any precautions they might take to deter future violence.

Counselors will also be on hand to speak with students on the Raines and Lee campuses on Monday.

At Friday’s game, the Raines Vikings beat the Lee Generals 16-7.

Anyone with information about the shooter is urged to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-866-845-TIPS for a potential cash reward.
