Video taken by a shocked witness shows police officers hiding behind their vehicles, parked to form a barricade, as gunfire reverberates throughout the suburban street.

One officer can be seen grabbing a civilian and pulling her to the ground as bullets rattle around them.

A cop crouching behind a police car then extends his gun-wielding hands over the top of the bonnet and fires.

‘Police attempted to negotiate with the man and it will be alleged police were threatened and the man shot at around 12.30pm,’ Queensland Police said.

‘He was treated at the scene however passed away a short time later.’

Locals reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing police running through a nearby park.

‘From what we could see, he lunged at them, police fired and then the paramedics came up,’ a bystander told the Courier Mail.
