Police rescued a one-year-old child from inside a hot car in the Florida sun after the vehicle’s security system alerted officials to a child making noises in a parked car.

Kristina Bowermaster, the mother of the child, was found unconscious in the vehicle with her daughter in the backseat, dripping in sweat and with an overflowing diaper.

Bowermaster was arrested in Lake City on Sunday on a child neglect charge, according to Columbia County Court records, after being arrested in March for a similar incident.

When police searched her home, they found drug paraphernalia indicative of methamphetamine and crack use.

Police were called to the site of Bowermaster’s parked vehicle at 727 SW Mauldin Avenue by OnStar vehicle assistance, which alerted authorities that a child could be heard making noises in car.

When police arrived on the scene, they found both the child and Bowermaster in the car, with Bowermaster unconscious.

The child was playing with car keys and was wearing a diaper that had become so full it was overflowing with waste, the Springfield News-Sun reported.

One window had been left open by about three to four inches, police said, so they were able to unlock the car to access the child.

Authorities said both the mother and child were drenched in sweat and there were no beverages in the car.

Bowermaster reported being dizzy, thirsty and light-headed, but declined medical treatment for both herself and the child.

Police said that last thing Bowermaster reported remembering was leaving a Winn-Dixie at 3.01pm.

The Department of Children and Families also responded to the scene. DCF officials stayed with the child until another family arrived, who assumed care of the child.

DCF has concluded there is evidence of ‘abundant child neglect’ in the case of the child, officials said.
