That declaration came last month on CBS This Morning, when after an interview about her new book Winfrey’s gal pal Gayle King asked: ‘2020, I’m wondering if you’ve narrowed down your short list of VP candidates?’

A stunned Winfrey was speechless and turned her head to look at King’s co-hosts Norah O’Donnell and Charlie Rose before stammering: ‘Is she .. has she … she’s lost her mind now.’

O’Donnell then chimed in to note that she was a bit confused by how King framed the question, while Winfrey said that when she heard 2020 she thought King was making a reference to the ABC program.

King continued: ‘People ask it all the time, even I am starting to think the rules have changed.’

She then said that when she told one person she ‘would bet her first born’ that Winfrey would never run, her daughter and oldest child Kirby protested that analogy.

That drew out laughter from her co-hosts and Winfrey, who stated: ‘Well you can be safe with that. There will be no running for office of any kind for me.’

Winfrey, television pro that she is, then seamlessly segued by saying: ‘But I thought you wanted to talk about my “60 Minutes” piece.’

King had been asked the same question by her co-hosts earlier this year and, true to form, said: ‘You always have the right to change your mind but I would bet my first, second born and any unborn children to come, that ain’t never happening.’

She then added: ‘Never. I’ll say never on this one.’

A slew of recent op-eds over the past few months have championed Winfrey as a possible Democrat candidate to take on President Trump in the midterm election.

It is an idea Winfrey first addressed back in March, and also shot down at that time.
