A mother-of-two has tragically died in a house fire despite the desperate efforts of her husband who went back inside the blaze to save her.

Naomie Richings was killed as flames engulfed her single storey house on Pimpala Place in Orange, four hours west of Sydney, early on Friday morning.

Her two children, aged nine and ten, were pulled outside by firefighters with her husband James suffering burns after venturing back into the burning building when he realised his wife had not made it out.

Emergency crews were called to the address about 5.45am on Friday and found the house ‘well-alight’ before entering under ‘intense fire conditions’.

‘Officers from Fire and Rescue NSW entered the building and rescued two children; they were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics suffering the effects of smoke inhalation,’ NSW Police said in a statement.

‘A short time later, firefighters located a woman in the front room; however, she was unable to be revived,’ police said.

‘A man had escaped the blaze but suffered burns when attempting to re-enter the home.’

Mr Richings and the children were rushed to nearby Orange Base Hospital where the man remains in a serious but stable condition.

One of the boys is also in a stable condition at the hospital while the other was transferred to Sydney’s Westmead for further treatment.

Police confirmed all four are from the same family.

Ms Richings said her two sons were ‘kings of my heart’ on her Facebook profile which is filled with videos of her and her children.

Pictures from the scene show black smoke billowing from the red brick home as shocked neighbours watched on.

Harrowing young cries were heard as the children were treated by paramedics in the street for smoke inhalation.

Investigations into what cause the blaze are underway.

Fire and Rescue NSW region Acting Inspector Dane Phillippe praised the actions of firefighters.

‘Due to their brave and rapid actions, they were able to enter the home, which was well alight and rescued two children,’ he said.

Fire and Rescue NSW superintendent Adam Dewberry added the fire was ‘a tragedy that will be fully investigated.’

‘FRNSW is unable to comment on the details around this fire however there is at least one action everyone can take immediately to be safer in their home,’ he said.

‘That is to make sure you have a working smoke alarm fitted on all levels that is less than ten years old.’

A crime scene has been established and an ignitable liquid detection dog is assisting investigators to scour the area.
