Oregon sheriff’s office reassigns deputy after video shows him repeatedly punching homeless man

A sheriff’s deputy has been reassigned temporarily after video showed him repeatedly punching a homeless in Oregon during an arrest on Monday. 

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy Jake Thompson has been moved to a non-patrol assignments while the arrest is reviewed. 

Also seen in the video are Deputies Derrick Ramseyer, Dave Zahn, Ethan Griffith and Mark Ferron. 

Marion County Sheriff’s is investigating the arrest of Kevin Straw, 28, on Monday who was seen getting pummeled by officers for what they claim was him resisting arrest

Video, obtained by KGW, show the officers outside the Marion County search-and-rescue center responding to reports of a missing father and son. 

They can be seen grabbing Kevin Straw, 28, before knocking him to the ground and bludgeoning him. 

In the video, the man can be heard screaming: ‘I came to warn you about the cougar. there’s a cougar. It’s hurting people.’ 

He can be heard telling the officers that he isn’t resisting as they continue to pummel him.

Police were arresting Straw for entering the command post and repeatedly disrupting the crews there. 

Griffith claimed that Straw was making so much noise that communication was hard to maintain.

The sheriff’s office claimed that the homeless man resisted arrest so force was used to take him in.

Officers found a large fixed-blade in his possession. 

Straw has allegedly been in the Detroit, Oregon, area for weeks telling of cougars and military forces on Saturday.

The man was evaluated by paramedics and was cited for interfering with police and resisting arrest. 

He was then taken to the Psychiatric Crisis Center in Salem where he ill be evaluated.
