OSCAR CAINER reveals what Mercury Monday will mean for you

As anyone can attest, the last few years have been tumultuous to say the least. But on Monday the heavens will treat us to a dazzling celestial event that may just spell the end to these crisis-stricken times: the Transit of Mercury.

For while this tiny planet may cast barely a shadow as it passes across the face of the Sun, the vast symbolism of this rare Transit cannot be understated.

Mercury symbolises all forms of communication, not to mention rationality and reason. It enables astrologers to understand interpersonal relationships, particularly our dealings with neighbours, both on a personal and national level.

If all these themes are sounding a bit familiar, it’s no surprise.

For this is the second in a pair of Mercury Transits, with the first having occurred in May 2016 — just over a month before the Brexit referendum.

HOW TO WATCH THE TRANSIT

The Transit of Mercury will start at 12.35pm and will end at 6.04pm, with Mercury nearest the Sun’s centre at 3.19pm.

Don’t photograph or watch the Transit without a special telescope or long camera lens fitted with a solar filter.

Attempting to watch it using eclipse glasses will damage your eyes.

Visit www.facebook.com/royalmuseumsgreenwich/ to watch a live stream of the event from The Royal Museums at Greenwich.

Transits happen roughly 13 times per century. The next one won’t occur until 2032.

But, while the first Transit marked a breakdown in relationships and communication, this one signifies our move into an era of innovation, when wounds can be healed and new communication pathways forged.

By investing in a vision that transcends the artificial boundaries that divide us, we can rediscover ways to come together.

In all, it’s the cosmos’s way of drawing a line under recent confusion, marking the moment we begin to put into practice all that we’ve learned since 2016.

If we act on the knowledge we’ve gained to correct past mistakes, we can start moving towards a more compassionate and prosperous future — something that will come as a welcome relief to Brexit-weary voters.

Admittedly, the Transit is far from being a ticket to a trouble-free world; there’s a lot of work to be done.

However, cosmic help will be provided by Saturn and Neptune’s encouraging alliance. These two influential planets help us to let go of outdated opinions and biases.

Although taskmaster Saturn’s down-to-earth, disciplinarian nature might seem at odds with free-spirited Neptune, these strange bedfellows encourage each other in a surprisingly harmonious way — ensuring that any visions inspired by Mercury’s Transit become real rather than remaining wishful dreams.

Mercury’s Transit of the Sun brings a chance to set things right. Its retrograde path across the face of our brightest star is a visceral image of the potential for a change in perspective.

Of course, it’s not easy to face up to mistakes; but only by acknowledging errors can we hope to re-emerge wiser and more capable. This is an opportunity to get ourselves back on track in every aspect of our lives.

And, as Gemini shows, there’s good news on the horizon for Boris…

THE PLANET’S JOURNEY AND YOUR SUN-SIGN

Here Oscar interprets the meaning of the Transit for each individual sun-sign…

ARIES

(March 21 — April 20)

The Transit brings you an opportunity to revisit a lost cause and transform it, so that it begins to resemble a glimmer of hope.

Here comes a chance to discover a green shoot growing out of the ashes. Here comes a shot at redemption.

For far too long, a series of frustrating circumstances has forced you to leave a heartfelt ambition simmering on the backburner. It’s time for that to change!

In the twilight of 2019, you’re being energised with a new- found enthusiasm and the audacity required to pursue your unique dream.

It’s your refusal to accept defeat that will ultimately prove to be your greatest asset as the year draws to a close.

The Transit of Mercury represents an inspiring light that will guide you out of the shadows and into a future where you can achieve something really special.

TAURUS

(April 21 — May 21)

The last Transit, in 2016, was in your sign. Although its return is in the opposite sector of the sky to your celestial home, lining up at the furthest point from Taurus, its effects are far from diminished.

It’s highly significant that this Transit coincides with the annual Full Moon in Taurus, an indication that it not only brings tangible benefits into your life, but also the perspective and clarity to understand how best to utilise them.

This is an opportunity to revisit what you thought you knew, and understand it from a completely different perspective.

Here comes an opportunity to correct mistakes of the past and establish new growth in the right direction.

Your gifts lie in the generosity of your big Taurean heart. If you follow your instincts, this is your chance to do things differently and be better off materially and emotionally as a result.

GEMINI

(May 22 — June 22)

Mercury is your ruling planet, so its inspirational Transit has special significance for Geminis. Since its movement is retrograde (apparently moving backwards in the sky), it offers a chance to correct a mistake, so you can ensure that your plans for the future have the best possible chance of success. While the 2016 Transit set important wheels in motion, this time it brings the chance to get them back on track.

The Transit’s effects are enhanced by the last of a series of powerful Saturn and Neptune alignments, giving you the ability to achieve something significant that will make a lasting difference to your life.

You just need to sensitively acknowledge any past failures, and forgive the mistakes that have led you along challenging paths. You’ve been through a lot this year.

As you catch a glimpse of the bright future you’re heading towards, you’ll see why your struggles were worthwhile.

CANCER

(June 23 — July 23)

The Transit of Mercury finds you in a unique position. Following a year of dealing with Saturn, the cosmic teacher, opposite your sign, you’re more than ready to take advantage of the inspiration and clarity it brings.

Here comes an opportunity to re-imagine your life. Yes, there are problems you’d like to ignore, but if you take a closer look at them, you’ll uncover solutions that were previously much too off-the-wall to even consider. Suddenly creative ideas are inspiring you with promise.

As you find the courage to listen to your inner wisdom, it enables you to follow new and ingenious routes, and courageously venture into uncharted territory.

As you move towards the end of the year, you can make fulfilling progress in key relationships or in your work environment.

LEO

(July 24 — August 23)

Although it’s called the Transit of Mercury, this celestial show wouldn’t be possible without your ruler, the Sun. So let’s not overlook the star that empowers this event; because you too are being empowered.

As Mercury moves backwards across the face of the Sun, its mighty transformative powers are magnified.

It’s an opportunity for you to see your world from a different perspective, and to reassess the choices that brought you to your current situation.

During the Transit, Mercury —which symbolises communication — brings you a welcome boost of courage and encourages you to share your most precious dreams with the key people in your life.

One particular relationship holds the potential to support you, both creatively and practically.

If you focus all your attention on the right person now, the bond will be successful, long-lasting and completely trustworthy — inspiring the support you need to succeed.

VIRGO

(August 24 — September 23)

Since you’re ruled by Mercury, its spectacular Transit enhances your natural gifts. Your empathic ability to understand others is enriched and you’ll find innovative ways to reach people and help them. The Transit also brings you the ability to use those skills in your own life; you can find ways to move past obstacles that have been blocking your progress.

With the world’s attention turning towards your elusive ruling planet, you’re called to step out into the limelight. The Transit heralds a new era, when you’ll receive recognition for the work you do.

Without a fanfare, change is taking place; get ready to receive the appreciation you deserve. Prepare for support that will encourage you to take bold steps towards making the world a better place.

LIBRA

(September 24 — October 23)

As the planet of communication and commerce makes its way across the face of the Sun, it focuses attention on your ambitions.

This spectacular event, which coincides with the Full Moon, enables you to review your resources and uncover new ways to enrich your life and wellbeing.

This is a moment to review your progress so far this year, and capitalise on what you’ve learned.

Although the path through 2019 hasn’t been easy, it has brought you invaluable experiences, which you can now build on.

This magnificent celestial show shines a light on a potential new discovery that can reshape the way you see the world and what you value in it.

As you’re emboldened by the Transit’s influence, you’ll understand why you’ve taken the journey to where you are today, and see the huge potential your future holds.

You’re being encouraged by a benevolent cosmos. The time for hesitation is over. Be bold. This is your moment!

SCORPIO

(October 24 – November 22)

Since the Transit occurs in your sign, this is a powerful time for you.

As the planet of communication, ingenuity and trade crosses the face of the Sun, you’ll receive a celestial boost in the attributes it represents. Just as Mercury is elusive, Scorpios have a secretive side. You keep your cards close to your chest and operate in subtle ways. Since you rarely like being the centre of attention, there will be times when this experience makes you feel uncomfortable.

Yet as the world turns its attention to Mercury, you’ll discover new skills and abilities. As you reassess what you’ve been focused on, you’ll see how much more you’re capable of achieving.

With new boldness, you can recognise your natural talents and find the courage to take a leading role on a central stage.

SAGITTARIUS

(November 23 —December 21)

As the spectacular Transit of Mercury arrives, it brings you the insight to look back at a situation you had dismissed as hopeless and find the jewel of hope that lies within it.

You have a natural talent for seeing the positive in situations where everyone else has given up.

Now, as your resourceful, creative skills are highlighted, you’re perfectly placed to stop an unhelpful, repetitive cycle and discover innovative ways to encourage positive progress.

Since Mercury is the planet of communication, this celestial showstopper holds the potential to open creative channels so you can more easily share your optimistic ideas.

As you begin to experiment with your new communicative powers, you’ll gain confidence in your values and visions. Your ideas for a better future can benefit the world. Now, it’s time to make them heard.

CAPRICORN

(December 22 — January 20)

As Mercury, the planet of ingenuity and communication, transits the face of the Sun, we find you in a powerful position.

With Jupiter, the planet of optimism, soon to enter your sign, you’re about to have half of the major planets in Capricorn, each bringing gifts that enable you to make powerful positive changes.

With the Transit adding to the celestial equation, your ability to see through clouds of illusion, straight to the heart of the matter, has never been more powerful.

The Transit brings new ways to communicate, which enable you to express your insights in ways that will be heard and acted upon.

The confidence this brings will enable you to put more trust in your imaginative skills — and, as your self-assurance grows, so will your power to influence.

With your ability to sort out the wheat from the chaff, your leadership skills can help create a better world.

AQUARIUS

(January 21 — February 19)

The Transit arrives just as your traditional ruler Saturn (structure and commitment) links with Neptune (dreams and inspiration), meaning there has never been a more perfect time to show your sensitive side.

You have always had deep, emotional resources, yet you rarely show them to anyone.

Now, with a celestial super-boost, as the elusive planet of communication is highlighted for the world to see, you can find the confidence to reveal more of what lies in your heart. In order to live the life you want to lead, you need to have the understanding of the key people around you.

They need to know why you make the choices you make, and how you envision their part in your future. If you risk making yourself vulnerable, your courage will be rewarded by an open-hearted welcome that will support you in ways you’ve never dreamed possible.

When you embrace warmth and appreciation, you can dream bigger and better.

PISCES

(February 20 — March 20)

Although The Transit of Mercury is taking centre stage, for Pisceans there is a more subtle astrological act taking place, which adds magic to the celestial show.

With your ruling planet, visionary Neptune, making the last of a series of links to responsible Saturn, you’re able to amalgamate your experiences of 2019 and use your knowledge to make a decision that will change how you live your life.

The Transit offers a rare chance to turn a visionary dream into a reality. Behind your fun-loving, openness lies a seriousness that is determined to make a difference, to manifest practical and long-lasting benefits from the ideas that come so naturally to you. Now, with renewed faith in yourself, and a celestial helping hand, you can be the change you want to see.
