Overtaking car comes within inches of a head-on collision

  • Driver filmed another motorist flying down a hill towards him while overtaking
  • Footage shows the Peugeot pulling in just inches from a head-on collision
  • Near-miss happened shortly after a motorcyclist was killed in the same area

This is the heart-stopping moment a motorist tries to overtake two cars and nearly ploughs into an oncoming vehicle.

Dashcam footage shows the silver Peugeot 3008 speeding down the wrong side of the road in the Scottish borders.

The footage starts by showing the car visible in the distance attempting to overtake two cars as it comes down a hill.

But rather than pull in between the two cars and out of the way of the oncoming vehicle, it continues until the oncoming car has to pull out of the way.

A driver came within inches of a head-on crash overtaking two cars in the Scottish borders

The driver who had to slam on his brakes and swerve to avoid the Peugeot posted footage online to alert others.

Mark Goodwin said: ‘I was doing 47mph when I got to the brow of the hill, and slowed further when I saw him, naively thought he might tuck in behind the car, how wrong was I.’

Less than a week earlier, a motorbiker was tragically killed near Cornhill on Tweed after he collided with a Mercedes car travelling south.

Retired police officer Ian Bell Whillans, 60, from nearby Galashiels died at the scene.

Mr Goodwin added: ‘Doesn’t seem to bother this driver that there was a fatal accident last week, about a mile from this incident where the same thing happened. Overtaking in a blind dip.’
