This is the moment a young boy from Makassar, Indonesia, gets more than he bargained for after taunting a snake by sticking his tongue out at it while his friend holds the creature close to his face.

The older boy mirrors him by sticking his tongue out and angles the snake towards the young boy’s mouth. 

The snake lurches forward and latches onto the child’s tongue.

 He closes his eyes in horror and in pain as onlookers laugh loudly.

The young boy brings both hands up to his mouth in an attempt to remove the reptile which clings on.

He starts to cry and wail with the crowd around him still laughing.
