Pakistan Taliban fighters train in ‘No Tension’ T-shirts

Taking their sense of fashion to a laughable – rather than fearful – new level, these Pakistani Taliban fighters clearly aren’t gunning for any designer accolades.

The militants have released photos of their new recruits in training gear.

The trainees are wearing an unusual mix of Army-style camouflage trousers tucked into knee-length white socks, paired with a black t-shirt sporting the words ‘No Tension’ above pictures of handguns facing in opposition directions.

Their ‘look’ is rounded off with a black balaclava, beneath bandana headbands bearing Islamic script, while their hands are clad in studded fingerless black leather gloves.

Their clashing clobber was exposed via TRACterrorism.org, which analyses terrorist groups and activities around the world.

The pictures were uploaded to Taliban-supporting channels on social media by the group’s propaganda wing, Umar Media.

They belong to Tehreek-e-Taliban, the Pakistani offshoot of the fundamentalist group that once controlled neighbouring Pakistan and were taken at a training camp in the mountainous region that separates the two countries.

Tehreek-e-Taliban received a hammer blow last month when at least 20 members, including the son the group’s chief Mullah Fazlullah, were killed in a US drone strike in the northeastern Afghan province of Kunar.

The fighters died killed in an attack on a camp training suicide bombers, the group said in a statement texted to local journalists in Pakistan’s Bajaur district, which borders Kunar.

Pakistan has often accused US and Afghan forces of not doing enough to target the group’s forces resident on the Afghan side of the volatile Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where they fled following a series of military operations by Pakistan.
